The Mercury Cougar changed drastically for 1969. The body grew in length by about 3.5 inches and in width by nearly 3 inches. The grill was flipped horizontal and extended the entire width of the front bumper. The Boss 302 badge is often associated with the Mustang nameplate, but the Mercury Cougar Eliminator also bore this privilege. For 1969, you could only get the Boss 302 engine option with the Eliminator trim package, which was only available on the hardtop Cougar. It was offered in 4 colors: Bright Blue Metallic, Competition Orange, Bright Yellow and White. The Boss 302 option was added so late to the lineup of options, it didn't even appear in the owner's manual! Only 169 Cougar Eliminator Boss 302s were ever made.
