Produced by The Daimler Company Limited in the United Kingdom from 1962 to 1967, the original Daimler V8 was the last Daimler car to have an engine bearing the same name after the company was acquired by Jaguar Cars. The four-door saloon was produced in Coventry, and launched late in 1962. Bearing many similarities to the Jaguar Mark 2, it was differentiated by the above engine, drive-train and also external details such as a fluted grille and rear number plate surround, 'D' Wheel trim and badges. Interior details were amended, notably the split-bench front seat. The V8 engine was more compact and lighter than the straight six engine in the Jaguar Mark 2, and the suspension settings were revised accordingly to suit the altered weight distribution. Three years after its launch, A Daimler 2 1/2-line saloon with automatic transmission tested by the Britain's Autocar Magazine in May 1966 reaching a top speed of 112 mph and achieving 0-60 mph in 13.6 seconds. The V8-250 modelled here was produced from October 1967-1969 and is the final refinement of this elegant car. Including the original V8 model, over 17,600 units were produced.
